Recently during a match AC Milan player Kevin Constant was allegedly racially abused by supporters of Sassuolo, he reacted to this by kicking the ball into the stands and walking off the field essentially forcing AC Milan to sub him. Now the police have said that no racial abuse took place but the league decided differently and handed down fines as they should. This is where this turns into a nightmare Sassuolo was fined 30,000 Euros for the alleged racial abuse and for reasons that cannot be properly explained Kevin Constant was fined 3,000 euros for kicking the ball into the stands and disrupting play for about two minutes. So in other words the league basically decided to fine him for standing up for themselves. At this point I would like to bring up the fact that about 7 months ago Kevin- Prince Boateng was racially during a friendly match, it is also worth noting that he as well picked up the match ball and kicked it into the stands but I cannot recall any sort of punishment being handed down to Boateng.
For a league that already has more problems that they know what to do with, for the fact that football in general has a horrendous problem with racial abuse of its players by fans. The actions that were taken and the fine that was handed down to Kevin Constant is absolutely appalling, I fully understand the fact that he disrupted play by for a sport that is supposedly doing its hardest to eradicate racism this surely is a massive step backwards, punishing a player for standing for himself.
In order to make this a bit more fun and interesting do feel free to argue my opinions or agree with them or really just discuss/ debate anything football related in general.
With the news today that Clint Dempsey is going to move from Tottenham to the Seattle Sounders and the news weeks ago that Jozy Altidore has moved from AZ ( Eredivise) to Sunderland ( EPL). There is some cause for concern I believe for the national team. Jozy Altidore who has just recently broken an insanely long scoring draught for the national team after having an insanely productive season for AZ ( 31 goals). Altidore has previously had a very unsuccessful season in the premier league back in 09-10 and the one thing a striker needs more then anything is confidence, and confidence is gained from scoring goals. Now in regards to Dempsey who is essentially the best leader the men’s national team has. He is going from playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world to possibly moving to a league that is still developing it’s self. These two transfers should cause concern amongst usmnt fans because we need out players playing at the highest possible level and having good seasons with their respective teams this season so that they have the necessary match fitness and confidence going into the tail end of concacaf qualifying and then hopefully Brazil next year. While these two transfers will hopefully not have a negative impact on the usmnt, it is something that Jurgen and the fans of the men’s side should pay close attention to in the upcoming season.
